    Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Urban Livelihoods Mission to deal Urban Poverty Content Editor: Dr. Anubhav Mondal March 27, 2023 at 2:33:05 PM Poverty Alleviation Programmes, NULM In a reply to Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs informed regarding Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) being implemented to alleviate urban poverty. DAY-NULM has the following objectives, Reduce poverty and vulnerability of urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities. Improve their livelihoods on a sustainable basis. Address concerns of the urban street vendors by facilitating access to suitable spaces, institutional credit, social security, etc. Employment through Skill Training & Placement (EST&P) component under the Mission aims to provide skill training to the urban poor in market-oriented courses. The Self-Employment Programme (SEP) component focuses on financial assistance to individuals/groups/SHGs of urban poor to set up gainful self-employment ventures or micro-enterprises. Previous Next

    Boreal Pox: Unveiling Alaska's enigmatic virus Content Editor: Dr. KH Reddy April 10, 2024 at 4:00:00 PM Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology, Orthopoxvirus, Global Health While Boreal pox was first identified in Fairbanks Alaska, the Department of Health of Alaska wanted the terminology of the virus to reflect the scope of identification outside of Alaska. Hence, after coordination with the CDC and WHO, from April 2024, Alaska pox will be referred to by its new name, Boreal Pox. The first six cases were from Fairbanks itself, while the latest was reported this year from the Kenai region of Alaska. No human-to-human transmission has been observed with Boreal pox but epidemiologists report that canine and feline pets may have a role in its transmission.     Global Agreement to protect the World from future pandemic: WHO Content Editor: Dr. Ranjitha R April 15, 2023 at 2:01:20 PM Global health, IHR During the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) this week, countries discussed and mapped out a global accord on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. Countries deliberated about their concerns, ideas and suggestions for protecting against the future pandemic in drafting the pandemic accord. More than 300 amendments to International Health Regulations (IHR- 2005) have been put forward for discussion for strengthening the global response to public health emergencies. The proposed amendments of IHR and the final draft of the pandemic accord will be presented at the 77th World Health Assembly in May 2024. Previous Next
