WHO's urgent call: Safeguarding health, easing suffering in Gaza WHO's urgent call: Safeguarding health, easing suffering in Gaza Content Editor: Dr. Himabindu Reddy October 31, 2023 WHO News Section Global health, WHO, Humanittarian aid, Israel-gaza conflict WHO has requested Israel to revoke the order for the mass evacuation of Gaza, as doing so could have disastrous health implications. According to information provided to WHO by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, patients who require life support or who are seriously injured cannot be evacuated while conflicts continue, putting the lives of the vulnerable in jeopardy. WHO is also working to immediately create a humanitarian corridor so that supplies can be safely transported to Gaza's medical institutions. This could possibly be through Rafah, which is just 20 minutes from the WHO logistics hub, which is stocked with enough supplies for 300,00 patients with a variety of wounds and diseases. After meeting with WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros on October 9, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi agreed to expedite the transportation of medical supplies and other humanitarian aid from WHO to Gaza through the Rafah crossing.

Air awareness inequalities Air awareness inequalities Content Editor: Dr. Sakshi April 15, 2024 Social Trends Air Pollution, AQI, Environmental Health For the “SAAF SAANS” survey, conducted by the NGO Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group, a population of 500 people was divided into two groups: Residents of informal settlements and slums Formal middle-class settlements In contrast to middle-class settlements, where 71% of residents were aware of terms like AQI and PM 2.5, which pose a health risk, only 10% of urban poor people were aware of the same. The results of the study also showed that automobiles were cited as the primary source of air pollution (33%) by urban poor respondents, followed by construction activities (27%), and stubble burning (20%). While respondents from the middle class employed air purifiers and indoor plants to lessen their exposure to air pollution, the urban poor relied on face masks and increased water consumption.

- Next generation sequencing for Tuberculosis
Next generation sequencing for Tuberculosis Next generation sequencing for Tuberculosis Content Editor: Dr. Pragyna Paramita Das August 3, 2023 WHO News section Diagnostic modality, Drug resistant TB, Innovation The World Health Organization has released rapid communication on a new diagnostic technology: "targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) ” for the detection of DRTB. It can rapidly and accurately predict the genetic analysis and detection of mutations associated with resistance. The “End to End” test available commercially for the targeted NGS can assimilate new information on the genetic markers for resistance; However, the detection of all categories of DRTB remains a challenge. WHO's global TB program convened a guideline development meeting to review the available evidence on targeted NGS solutions for detecting DRTB and make recommendations on their clinical use. This communication gives countries advice on how to handle various changes in diagnosis and enables a smoother programme transition.
