SHe-Box Portal: A New Era in Workplace Safety for Women SHe-Box Portal: A New Era in Workplace Safety for Women Content Editor : Dr.Dheenadhayalan September 11, 2024 Press Information Bureau Women safety, Sexual harassment, SHe-Box portal The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched the updated SHe-Box portal , a centralized system for addressing workplace harassment complaints. Union Minister Smt. Annpurna Devi, said the portal streamlines the submission process, directly linking complaints to Internal and Local Committees. It offers a unified platform for women to file complaints , monitor their status, and ensure that complaints are processed in a timely manner by the relevant authorities. The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act 2013 , aims to protect women from sexual harassment and address their grievances is a cornerstone to this effort. The SHe-Box is accessible to all women , whether they work in organized or unorganized sectors, in public or private organizations, or even as domestic workers This initiative strengthens workplace safety and aligns with India’s broader commitment to women-led development.

There should be 241 MD (medical) experts in the state, according to Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) , however, there are only 50 . Only 95 of the 193 needed gynaecologists, 100 of the 231 required anaesthetists, 65 of the 146 required paediatricians, and 75 of the 143 necessary surgeons are present in Haryana. The state only has around 4,000 doctors compared to the 10,000 or more required as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines. The main causes of specialist doctors leaving their jobs are thought to be overwork, lack of promotion (they only receive one in their entire career), inadequate pay, unfavourable working conditions, the weight of medical-legal cases and court evidence, a lack of medicines, workplace security concerns, and being denied the status of Class-I officer.

Rising Influenza (H3N2) cases - ICMR issues Advisory Rising Influenza (H3N2) cases - ICMR issues Advisory Content Editor : Dr. Sangya Chaudhary March 6, 2023 ICMR ICMR, Respiratory illnesses, Influenza H3N2 Due to the rising cases of H3N2 influenza A cases , observed in the laboratory network for ILI-SARI (Influenza-like illness- Severe Acute Respiratory Illnesses) Surveillance, the Indian council of medical research (ICMR) has issued new advisories . There was a rise seen in the H3N2 Influenza A cases in the surveillance data from 15th December till date . About half of in-patient SARI and outpatient ILI were found to have Influenza A H3N2. The most common symptoms seen in the hospitalized patients in decreasing order were fever, cough, breathlessness, wheezing, pneumonia, and seizures . 10% of these patients needed oxygen and 7% required ICU care . Do’s - washing hands , wearing masks , avoiding crowded places , taking plenty of fluids , taking PCM for fever and body ache have been encouraged. Don'ts - Not maintaining distance even while greeting people, spitting in public , and use of antibiotics or other medications without consulting a doctor.

Surge of psittacosis cases in Europe Surge of psittacosis cases in Europe Content Editor: Dr. Rashmi Verma March 25, 2024 WHO News Section Zoonotic Diseases, Disease Outbreak, International Health News There has been a surge in the cases of psittacosis in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, and The Netherlands since late 2023, leading to increased fatalities. The source of infections is usually infected birds, which can include both domestic and wild birds. In Austria, the surge was not associated with wild birds , whereas in Denmark, the source of infection was found to be wild birds. In contrast, the surge in Germany and Sweden was found to be due to increased contact with infected domestic birds and small birds, respectively. However, no such association was found in the Netherlands. The countries are now investigating and testing wild birds to understand better. The World Health Organization (WHO) is closely monitoring the situation and says the overall risk is low. The following measures have been suggested by the WHO: Testing sick people, Keeping new birds separate, and Checking wild birds for signs of the disease to prevent psittacosis from spreading further.

New rules on habeus corpus petitions New rules on habeus corpus petitions Content Editor: Dr. Manu Goel March 29, 2024 Supreme Court Judgement LGTQIA+, Indian Jurisprudence, Sexual Orientation and Identity, Equal Rights Responding to a ruling by the Kerala High Court, a three-bench judge of the Supreme Court comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra issued guidelines advising High Courts of the following points - Refrain from ordering counseling or paternal care for the individual in cases of illegal detention . The court may simply ascertain the wishes of the person. To prioritize habeas corpus petitions or petitions for protection filed by partners, friends, or a member of the natal family. To ensure that the wishes of the corpus are not influenced by the court, police, or their parents. The concept of family is not limited to the ‘natal family’. Two decades of inactivity: A global analysis of adult physical activity trends Content Editor: Dr. Sakshi Aggarwal July 3, 2024 at 2:30:00 PM Physical inactivity, research findings, Lifestyle A new study published in The Lancet Global Health Journal analyzed data from 507 population surveys across 197 countries, revealing trends in insufficient physical activity among adults from 2000 to 2022. There were 5.7 million participants in the research. Major findings include: 1. Global inactivity rose from 23.4% in 2000 to 31.3% in 2022. 2. Over half (52%) of countries showed increasing inactivity. 3. Women were 5% more likely to be inactive than men. 4. Inactivity is significantly rising among those over 60. The study concluded that, at current trends, global targets for reducing inactivity by 2030 won't be met (except possibly in Oceania and sub-Saharan Africa). There is an urgent need to prioritize strategies that promote and encourage physical activity across all demographics. This necessitates collaborative efforts from policymakers, public health professionals, and community leaders to create environments that make physical activity accessible, attractive, and equitable for everyone, regardless of sex, age, or location.
