Following this there is news the National Medical Commission (NMC) joined the revamping drive this week by changing its logo to include a color picture of 'Dhanvantari' and the term 'Bharat' above it. The doctor's community and the majority of public have criticized the needless move, senior officials at NMC maintain that the only change that has happened is that the black and white logo is now colored. Gender Equality- The Key To Harmony : Government can achieve through legislation Gender Equality- The Key To Harmony : Government can achieve through legislation Content Editor: Dr. Akhila Nandan June 26, 2023 United Nations Gender Equality, Domestic abuse, UNDP, Social determinants of health "Social norms that impair women's rights are detrimental to society more broadly, dampening the expansion of human development " said Pedro Conceição, head of UNDP's Human Development Report Office. 25% of people justify domestic abuse , because of hate campaigns and movements against gender equality. On an average, the share of women as heads of State or heads of government has remained around 10 per cent since 1995, less than 1/3 of managerial positions are held by women and there exists an income gap of about 39% among both genders. The UNDP reports that governments can achieve this dream of gender equality by shifting gender social norms, from adopting parental leave policies, that have changed perceptions around care work responsibilities, to labour market reforms that have led to a change in beliefs around women in the workforce. A reformation could be implemented by investing in laws to promote gender equality in the field of politics, occupation, and households. The issues of cyberbullying , online hate campaigns misinterpreting feminism and gender stereotyping , if tackled ardently by the government with the people’s support, this society will definitely be a utopia to live in harmony.

- WHO report: Status of multi-country outbreak of Mpox | PH Chronicle
WHO report: Status of multi-country outbreak of Mpox Content Editor: Dr. Chinmay July 12, 2024 at 3:00:00 PM WHO report, Mpox, International health, Outbreak The recent WHO Mpox External Situation Report provides an overview of the global Mpox outbreak status. The report indicates that there have been 97,745 confirmed cases and 203 deaths across 116 countries worldwide, with South Africa experiencing a severe outbreak with a high case fatality rate. In May 2024 alone, there were 646 new cases and 15 deaths, primarily in the African, European, and American regions. However, the report acknowledges that underreporting , particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), remains a significant challenge. The data shows that the majority of cases (96.4%) are male, predominantly within the 18-44 age group, with sexual contact being the primary mode of transmission . Common symptoms include a rash and fever, and the report highlights a notable 51.9% co-infection rate with HIV. In response, the WHO recommends targeted vaccination for high-risk group s and emphasizes the ongoing need for robust public health interventions and accurate reporting to manage the outbreak effectively. - H5N2 bird flu claims first human life in Mexico: Reports from the World Health Organization | PH Chronicle
H5N2 bird flu claims first human life in Mexico: Reports from the World Health Organization Content Editor: Dr. Mohammed Kashif June 18, 2024 at 3:00:00 PM Influenza, One-health, Outbreak Avian influenza virus infection in humans ranges from mild upper respiratory tract infection to severe, potentially fatal illness. The symptoms include conjunctivitis, gastrointestinal problems, encephalitis, and encephalopathy. A 59-year-old resident of the State of Mexico died from bird flu, making it the first confirmed human case of the H5N2 variant. The patient, who had chronic kidney disease and diabetes mellitus, passed away on April 24 after experiencing fever, shortness of breath, diarrhea, and nausea. Despite no known exposure to poultry or animals, the patient had been bedridden for three weeks before developing acute symptoms and died the same day of hospitalization in Mexico City. Authorities are monitoring farms near the patient’s home and have set up a wildlife monitoring system. In the United States of America, the H5N1 bird flu variant spread is ongoing among wild birds and dairy cows. There have been a few human cases, but there has been no human-to-human transmission. Similarly, Australia reported its first human H5N1 case in May, and there are no signs of transmission. Click here to read more . Previous Next
