  • Ashley Lashley, a longtime activist who founded the Ashley Lashley Foundation in 2018, was the driving force behind the event to raise awareness of important social, environmental, and health issues.

  • The conference was supported by UNICEF, the UN Agency for Reproductive Rights, UNFPA (United Nations Fund for Population Activities), the Caribbean Development Bank, and the governments of Malta and Australia.

  • UN Secretary-General António Guterres, at the SIDS4 conference, stated that the international community must consistently commit to supporting fragile island nations.

  • He emphasized that multistakeholder partnerships—including those with the commercial sector—will be crucial to preventing climate change.
