    Kerala Economic Review 2023: Cancer related findings Content Editor: Dr Tanya Tanu February 17, 2024 at 3:30:00 PM Cancer, Kerala State Planning Board, Population Based Screening Volume I covers the policies, programs, and achievements of Government departments. Volume II provides the corresponding datasets. Findings of Economic Review 2023 : The number of new cases at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Thiruvananthapuram , was 15,324 in 2022-23 with an increase of 36 percent in three years. The review cases reported increased from 1,50,330 in 2020-21 to 2,42,129 in 2022-23 , an increase of 61 percent in the three years. Malabar Cancer Centre (MCC) , Kannur has reported 7,795 new cases in 2022-23, and Cochin Cancer Research Centre had 1,606 new cases in that year. Cancer mortality is extremely high among males in the state compared to the national average. Population-based cancer registry at RCC and MCC reflected that the most prevalent cancers were: Lung cancer among men Breast cancer among women. Strategies adopted: Launching preventive oncology clinics. Population-based screening of non-communicable diseases. Advocating lifestyle changes: decreasing alcohol and tobacco consumption, unhealthy eating patterns, sedentary lifestyle, and high levels of stress. Previous Next

    Pharmacists as vaccinators January 25, 2023 at 6:32:13 AM Vaccination At the 72nd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress, Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) announced a program to train pharmacists as vaccinators. They will be certified by IPA and WHO after an online training for 15 days followed by 15 days offline training at registered hospitals. In remote villages, where dispensaries and nurses are rare to find, medicine shops being always available can help reduce the burden of vaccination on doctors, nurses and paramedical staff, particularly to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.     Bengaluru among five global cities recognized at the Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit Content Editor: Dr. Urmimala Maiti March 23, 2023 at 3:11:35 PM Global Health, NCDs, Partnership for Healthy Cities Partnership for Healthy Cities, a global network of 70 cities committed to preventing non-communicable diseases and injuries held its first-of-a-kind summit hosted by Bloomberg Philanthropies, World Health Organization, Vital Strategies, and Mayor Sadiq Khan of London. The summit proclaimed the various prevention strategies of local public health policy-making and implementation to prevent the risk factors of NCDs. Five cities received US$ 150,000 to advance their work in the partnership: Athens, Greece - for overdose prevention; Montevideo, Uruguay - for food policy; Mexico City - for road safety; Vancouver, Canada - for surveillance; Bengaluru, India- for tobacco control. The summit recognized the sustained efforts of the city to decrease smoking in public spaces and enforce the existing mandates. Previous Next

    Outbreak of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever in Pakistan Content Editor: Anubhav Mondal November 22, 2023 at 12:30:00 PM Epidemic, Viral outbreak, Viral hemorrhagic fever "FluTrackers" is an infectious disease news message board. The board has been delivering reports of continuous CCHF hospitalizations since August, reporting 15 deaths until mid-October. On November 5, Flutrackers reported that the government of Balochistan had announced a red alert in the aftermath of 16 CCHF deaths in the region, including a doctor. Officials at the outbreak hospital have taken the following steps: Isolated the infected ward, Taken special precautions to disinfect all cattle markets in the province They have banned private animal slaughter in public areas for two weeks. Also, France reported the first CCHF finding in Hyalomma ticks in October in cattle. CCHF is a viral hemorrhagic fever spread by Hyalomma ticks that is endemic in Africa, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Asia.     The Code on Social Security, 2020 Content Editor: Dr. Urmimala Maiti April 17, 2023 at 2:12:37 PM Social Security, Law and Justice, Labour and Employment "The Code on Social Security, 2020" has been formulated to extend social security benefits to organized and unorganized sectors (including domestic workers). The e-Shram portal launched on 26th August 2021 for the self-registration of workers initiated to maintain a National Database of Unorganized Workers to include gig and platform workers. Some of the existing social security benefits for organized sector workers are the: Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948; Employees’ Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952; Employees’ Compensation Act, 1923; Maternity Benefit Act, 1961; Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972. The social security benefits for unorganized sector workers are the: Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Act, 2008; Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana; Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
