    IT Ministry launches portal for social media complains March 3, 2023 at 1:11:50 PM Social Media, Laws & Regulation On February 28, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) portal in accordance with the IT Rules, 2021, enabling individuals who are dissatisfied with complaints made to social media companies regarding content takedown requests to have their cases heard. Users who are unhappy with a decision made by the Grievance Officer of an intermediary, such as Meta or Twitter, can file an appeal or a complaint through the GAC , which is in essence an online conflict resolution mechanism through the new portal https://gac.gov.in . Any user aggrieved by a decision of a platform's Grievance Officer can appeal to the grievance appellate panel within 30 days of the receipt of communication from the Grievance Officer. Food safety The MMWR study details the discovery of Schedule I drugs, including psilocybin and psilocin, in nootropic gummies that were sold in Virginia between late 2023 and early 2024 and contained Amanita muscaria or other mushrooms. After consuming these gummies, tachycardia, confusion, and nausea were reported by five individuals, one of whom was a youngster. According to laboratory testing, these candies also had additional ingredients like caffeine, ephedrine, and mitragynine. Because customers are unaware that these chemicals could cause severe sickness, their presence risks public health. Healthcare professionals and the general public are advised by the report to exercise caution while using nootropics that contain mushrooms because they may contain hazardous and hidden components.     Nirsevimab : A boon for children suffering from RSV-associated RTIs Nirsevimab : A boon for children suffering from RSV-associated RTIs Content Editor: Dr. Sakshi Aggarwal January 30, 2024 Centre for Infectious Disease Research And Policy Respiratory infections, Monoclonal antibodies Respiratory Syncytial Virus is one of the most common causes of respiratory tract infections in the first two years after birth. Recently, a monoclonal antibody named Beyfortus (nirsevimab) was approved for use among infants for protection against RSV. A study found that the antibody was protective and reduced the need for hospitalization following RSV-associated lower respiratory tract infections. In the study, 8058 infants were randomized into the control (4021) and intervention (4037) groups. The intervention group received one single IM injection of the monoclonal antibody. The findings from the study were as follows: The antibody was effective (75.7%) in preventing very severe RSV-related lower respiratory tract infections. Severe RSV-associated LRTI was found in 0.1% of the infants receiving the intervention and 0.5% among the infants belonging to the control group. Click here to read more.

The National Tobacco Control Programme launched Tobacco Free Educational Institution (ToFEI) Guidelines. A ToFEI Implementation Manual was released on World No Tobacco Day 2024. Key activities for schools include: Displaying "Tobacco Free Area" signage Ensuring no tobacco use evidence on premises Organizing regular tobacco control activities Nominating "Tobacco Monitors" Prohibiting tobacco sales within 100 yards Civil society involvement is encouraged for awareness through street plays, video films, talks by NGOs and experts, and National Social Service and Vidyanjali initiatives.
