This green initiative shall help in the following ways: Achieving a Green Economy Adopting a sustainable lifestyle to fight the challenges of climate change Foster organic relationships between man and nature Adopting the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) Initiative Current Initiatives towards building a Green Economy by the Govt. of India include: Wildlife Preservation Initiatives such as the Cheetah relocation, Project Tiger, Project Elephant, Project Lion, and the Big Cat Alliance Intensive Afforestation drives such as MISHTI (M ission M angrove I nitiative for S horeline H abitats and T angible I ncome) and the “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” Initiative, which advocates planting a tree in honor of your mother and motherland, make tree plantation drives an even more sacred process.     WHO's financial Transformation: The fit-for-future initiative WHO's financial Transformation: The fit-for-future initiative Content Editor: Dr. Anubhav June 4, 2024 WHO News Section International Health, Funding, Health Organizations The World Health Organization was left dependent on voluntary, frequently earmarked, and unpredictable contributions to fund its operations by 2022–2023. This dynamic led to uncertainty and inefficiencies throughout the organization . By then, Member States assessed that these contributions (membership dues) only comprised 13% of the Organization's budget. One of the main suggestions the Member State-led WHO Working Group on Sustainable Financing made to transform WHO into a dependable, sustainable, and adaptable funding body was to hold an investment round. The Investment Round has received a US$ 4 million completely flexible fund from Qatar. It was announced that Norway, Germany, and France would co-host the Investment Round. The Investment Round will end in November with a significant pledge ceremony by Brazil. Click here to read more.

    CPR revolution: unveiling scenario-based video for life-saving skills CPR revolution: unveiling scenario-based video for life-saving skills Content Editor: Dr. Kishore January 25, 2024 Press Information Bureau Health Education, Health literacy Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya launched a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Awareness Program by NBEMS This program was launched in response to increased cardiac deaths among the younger population in the country. This CPR initiative provides the public with adequate knowledge to save a person’s life at the earliest possible time when he/she is having a cardiac arrest This program was attended by more than 20 lakh people through an online medium, along with trained doctors at the venue explaining the techniques of CPR and answering queries. To continue this Initiative, NBEMS has launched a scenario-based CPR Awareness Video focusing on the steps to be followed in CPR when a person is having a cardiac arrest with a certificate of participation Click here to read more

    Evidential breath alcohol analyzer: Preventing wrongful penalties Evidential breath alcohol analyzer: Preventing wrongful penalties Content Editor: Dr. Sivanthiga July 20, 2024 Press Information Bureau Metrology, measurement, climate The Legal Metrology Division, which deals with the calibration of measuring instruments under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, drafted new rules for Evidential Breath Analyzers. These rules may be called the Legal Metrology (General) (Amendment) Rules, 2024. They are mentioned in the eighth schedule specifications for measuring instruments, part xiii- evidential breath analyzer. An evidential breath alcohol analyzer (EBA) is a device that uses end-expiratory breath air. It prints measurement results as the mass concentration of alcohol in a specified volume of exhaled air within specified error limits. Types: Stationary EBA Transportable EBA Portable EBA. To ensure accuracy, the Evidential Breath Analysers must be verified and stamped according to the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. This verification protects individuals from wrongful penalties due to faulty equipment and helps maintain the integrity of legal and workplace policies. The draft rules have been released, which state that the analyzers follow standardized testing procedures, ensuring consistent and reliable results across different devices. This would help in swiftly identifying people under the influence of alcohol. It was ordered that the existing EBAs be verified and stamped.     FSSAI boosts prison food safety: Certifies eat right campus FSSAI boosts prison food safety: Certifies eat right campus Content Editor: Dr. Sumana Mukhopadhyay April 1, 2024 Press Information Bureau Food safety, Hygiene Currently, approximately 100 jails are certified as ‘Eat Right Campus’ by FSSAI under the Eat Right India movement. Notable jails like Tihar Prison (Delhi) and Central Jail Gaya (Bihar) participated along with prisons from Punjab and MP, with UP having the highest number of certified jails. Certification involves meticulous assessment of food safety standards and promoting safe and nutritious food for inmates and staff. Campuses will undergo audits to ensure compliance with hygiene, healthy food provision, and awareness efforts, addressing gaps and training food handlers through FSSAI's (FoSTaC) Food Safety Training and Certification Programme. Over 2,900 workplaces are now Eat Right Campuses, enhancing well-being through access to healthy food.
