- The genesis of Global Digital Health Certification Network
The genesis of Global Digital Health Certification Network The genesis of Global Digital Health Certification Network Content Editor: Dr. Urmimala Maiti June 13, 2023 WHO News Section Global Health, Digital Health, Health Equity, Electronic health records Utilizing the technological competence of the European Union(EU), the WHO has advanced the "Global Digital Health Certification Network (GDHCN) ." GDHCN would serve as an online digital database of the citizen's health records for the WHO member states. The EU used its digital certificate system during COVID-19 to fight the pandemic and make international travel easy. The convergence of all the records into one shared repository would serve as a source to deliver better health services to all the member states without the WHO having access to individual data. GDHCN will also focus on ensuring equitable access to low and middle-income countries .

Interim Assessment ahead of World Health Assembly: WHO Achievements 2024 Interim Assessment ahead of World Health Assembly: WHO Achievements 2024 Content Editor: Dr. Chinmay May 23, 2025 World Health Organisation International Health News, WHO report, World Health Assembly The WHO Results Report 2024 , released prior to the 78th World Health Assembly (May 19–27, 2025), evaluates midterm progress under the 2024–2025 budget and Thirteenth General Programme of Work (2019–2025). Despite funding challenges, WHO advances its “Triple Billion” targets across 150+ countries. Universal Health Coverage : 431 million more people access affordable care, aided by stronger health workforces, broader HIV therapy, and contraceptive access. Immunization gaps and out-of-pocket costs remain hurdles. Health Emergency Protection : Enhanced readiness and monitoring systems, coupled with fairer distribution of health tools and updates to International Health Regulations, benefit 637 million more people. However, H5N1 responses and future pandemics face funding risks; a pandemic accord draft will be debated. Healthier Populations : WHO surpassed targets, with 1.4 billion more people healthier due to reduced tobacco use, cleaner air/fuels, and better WASH services. Rising obesity and alcohol misuse challenge gains. Key milestones: eliminating neglected tropical diseases in 7 nations, expanding mental health access to 70 million, vaccinating 500,000 Gaza children against polio, and distributing 259,000 mpox tests in Africa. Digital health tools now serve 2 billion with e-records. Over $1.7 billion pledged by 71 donors supports future efforts. The report highlights WHO’s commitment to efficient, accountable, evidence-based impact.

Dengue cases on the rise at the National capital and Kerala Dengue cases on the rise at the National capital and Kerala Content Editor: Dr. Urmimala July 8, 2024 Social trends Vector Borne Diseases, Dengue, IDSP The Health Minister of Delhi, Saurabh Bhardwaj, met with officials to discuss plans for preparedness for Dengue . From 1 January to 29 June, Delhi reported 246 cases this year , almost double the number reported last year for the same period. The officials attribute the rise to improved reporting in effect of the gazette notification 2021 that made notification of Dengue cases compulsory by all hospitals in Delhi. A heavy downpour towards the end of June, followed by water logging due to inappropriate drainage, led to the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, resulting in Dengue cases. As per serotyping, the current strain in circulation is DenV 2. The numbers highlight the importance of environmental modification as an essential step in preventing outbreaks of Dengue fever. The State Surveillance Unit, Directorate of Health Services of Kerala, reported 8654 confirmed cases and 23379 suspected dengue cases from 1 January to 6 July, alongside 22 deaths due to Dengue fever.

An exodus Town (Kumbanad) in Kerala An exodus Town (Kumbanad) in Kerala Content Editor: Dr. Anubhav Mondal April 6, 2023 BBC news Geriatric, Demography Schools in Kumbanad are facing a tough time in getting students in a rapidly ageing society, as the young are migrating quickly within and outside the country for opportunities Many flourishing hospitals and diagnostic centers point towards a rapidly ageing population. Some 15% of the 11,118 homes in and around Kumbanad are locked up because the owners have migrated or live with their children abroad. The decadal rise in population in Kerala between 2001 and 2011 was the lowest (4.9%) among all states Fertility rates in the state have been 1.7 to 1.9 births per woman for at least 30 years now The ailing elderly, old-age homes, labor shortages, migration of the young, declining population, and ghost towns in Kerala are an indication of the future of the vibrant India of today.
