A Multi-Country Survey on Anti-Microbial Resistance to Understand General Physicians’ Practices in Antibiotic Use. Content Editor: Dr. Smruthi May 24, 2025 CIDRAP, Global public health journal Antimicrobial resistance, Primary health care ,Research findings A cross-sectional survey of 9249 general physicians (GPs) from nine low- and middle-income countries (LMICs )was conducted by researchers from Global Medical Affairs , to study their antibiotic prescribing practices and attitudes towards antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Findings of the study : Of the participants, 62% agreed to the fact that AMR is a concerning issue in their country, and 63% said prescribing antibiotics in primary care leads to AMR. Challenges perceived : Around 38% of the GPs found it challenging in prescribing antibiotics to children. Ninety-five percent of the GPs said that choosing antibiotics for pregnant women and patients with comorbidities is challenging. Difficulty in correlating the data on antibiotic susceptibility with antibiotic choices. Little information is available on the availability of drugs. Unavailability of appropriate antibiotics. Lack of regular training. Factors leading to the usage of broad-spectrum antibiotics: Practioners belief that they are more effective than narrow-spectrum antibiotics in treating infections. Pressure from patients to prescribe antibiotics. The tendency to self-medicate. Non-compliance with the prescribed treatment. MDA campaign to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis by 2027 MDA campaign to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis by 2027 February 10, 2023 Press Information Bureau Lymphatic Filariasis, Infectious Disease With an aim to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis by 2027, three years ahead of the global NTD Roadmap target, India has launched Sarva Dawa Sevan or Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (LF). A multi-pronged approach with MDA through door-to-door drug administration in two phases to 1113 blocks in 90 districts across ten high burden states have been launched on 10th Feb 2023. In spite of 10-15 rounds of MDA in the past, the LF elimination could not be achieved due to suboptimal coverage. Hence, over the last month, states have adopted innovative mechanisms to reach out to communities to sensitize on MDA.

WHO Road safety manual updated to better curb pedestrian deaths WHO Road safety manual updated to better curb pedestrian deaths Content Editor: Dr. Himabindu Reddy May 11, 2023 News WHO Global health, Public health laws and regulations, Road safety, Accidents and Injuries Walking, a healthy habit, and an environment-friendly mode of transport, is fraught with safety risks with pedestrians accounting for nearly a quarter of all traffic fatalities . Pedestrian deaths are highest in WHO Africa region and these numbers are rising at double the rate of other road casualties. In a move to meet the United Nations' 2030 global target of a 50% reduction in mortality by road accidents, the World health organization(WHO), the Global road safety partnership(GRSP), and the World Bank have coproduced a revised Road-Safety manual to help governments limit and better manage the pedestrian fatalities in road traffic accidents.
