  • IL-35: A breakthrough in immunotherapy for Type 1 Diabetes | PH Chronicle

IL-35: A breakthrough in immunotherapy for Type 1 Diabetes Content Editor: Dr Dheenadhayalan V November 28, 2024 at 2:48:32 AM Diabetes Mellitus, Immunotherapy, Research findings The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST ), Guwahati, has identified IL-35 as a promising treatment for type 1 and autoimmune diabetes mellitus. IL-35 refers to Interleukin-35 , a cytokine belonging to the interleukin family. This protein, composed of IL-12α and IL-27β chains encoded by the IL12A and EBI3 genes, plays a pivotal role in regulating immune responses. By reducing inflammatory immune cells and controlling pancreatic beta cell infiltration, IL-35 helps prevent immune cells from attacking insulin-producing cells . The research team employed network pharmacological analysis to examine IL-35-related genes and disease interactions. They identified five key genes associated with immune-inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. The study, published in CYTOKINE and World Journal of Diabetes , highlights IL-35’s potential to protect the immune system and offers new hope for diabetes management. Further research is needed to elucidate IL-35's mechanisms and advance this promising therapy to clinical trials Click here to read more. Previous Next

This MoU was signed between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the governments of the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. The cooperation outlined in the MoU pertains to the regulation of medical products. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to enhance the mutual understanding of regulatory matters between the two parties, leading to increased collaboration in the regulation of medical products and improved coordination on international platforms. Methylocucumis oryzae: A methane-eating bacteria discovered in Pune Content Editor: Dr. Shubham August 29, 2024 at 2:30:00 PM Methanotroph, Global warming, Climate change Researchers at the MACS (Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science) Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) in Western India's wetlands, rice fields, and Vetal Tekdi found Methylocucumis oryzae, the first native methane-eating bacteria in India. This bacterium promotes early flowering and increases rice plant yield , helping in climate mitigation by oxidizing methane. Despite its unique size and slow growth rate, it poses challenges for large-scale cultivation and biotechnological applications. Due to its shape, this bacterium, named ‘methane-eating cucumbers’, promotes early flowering and increases yield in rice plants. These bacteria can reduce methane, a potent greenhouse gas, by oxidizing it, thus helping climate mitigation. Methane's global warming potential is 26 times greater than that of CO2. Methanotrophs help mitigate this by oxidizing methane. Methylocucumis oryzae is larger than most bacteria, promotes rice plant growth, and is phylogenetically unique. The slow growth rate of this methanotroph poses challenges for large-scale cultivation and biotechnological applications . No other Methy-locucumis species has been reported from any other nation. • India’s step towards climate change

India’s step towards climate change India’s step towards climate change Content Editor: Dr. Tanya August 9, 2024 Press Information Bureau Climate Change, Disaster Management India has identified three primary categories for climate adaptation priorities: Knowledge Systems : Enhancing understanding of climate change risks and adaptation strategies. Risk Exposure Reduction : Implementing measures to decrease vulnerability to climate-related risks. Resilience and Adaptive Capacity : Strengthening the ability to withstand and adapt to climate impacts. To support these priorities, India has enacted the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) , which establishes a comprehensive framework for climate initiatives through various national missions. Each State and Union Territory has developed its own State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCC) tailored to address specific regional climate and disaster management challenges. In August 2022, India revised its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to bolster its commitment to the global response to climate change, as outlined in the Paris Agreement. A key feature of the updated NDC is the introduction of the Mission ‘LiFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment) , aimed at encouraging responsible consumption by influencing the behaviors and attitudes of individuals and communities.
