  • World Asthma Day, celebrated since 1998 on the first Tuesday of May, is organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma and the World Health Organization.

  • This year, it was celebrated  on May 7, with the theme "Asthma Education Empowers."

  • Asthma is a leading cause of premature deaths in low and middle-income countries.

  • For patients, education focuses on understanding asthma symptoms, proper medication use, reducing exposure, assessing asthma control, and managing worsening conditions.

  • The goal is to empower self-care, improve medication adherence, and reduce emergencies, healthcare costs, and absenteeism.

  • For healthcare workers, the focus is on gaining the necessary knowledge and skills for effective asthma diagnosis, management, and patient support.
