WHO releases updated 22nd model lists of Essential medicines

The WHO expert committee on Essential Medicines considered 85 drugs for addition and after review added 12 drugs to pediatric and 24 drugs to adults’ list.
New drugs for multiple sclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, and mental health conditions have been added to the lists.
Some additions include pre-filled syringes for diabetics, acamprosate for alcohol abuse, ready to use therapeutic food for malnutrition.
Fixed combination drugs have been added to the list for the first time.
WHO also assured support to ensure equitable access to quality essential medicines in all countries.
