Incidence of cancer was 20 million and there were 9.7 million cancer deaths in 2022.
There were about 53.5 million people alive within 5 years of being diagnosed with cancer.
Surveys showed only 39% of participating countries covered the basics of cancer management as part of universal health coverage and only 28% covered palliative care in general.
Lung cancer was the most common accounting for 12.4% of total new cases, followed by female breast cancer (9.6%), prostate cancer (7.3%), and stomach cancer (4.9%).
People in lower HDI countries are at a much higher risk of death due to cancer because of late diagnosis and inadequate access to quality treatment.
Over 35 million new cancer cases are predicted to occur in 2050 compared to the estimated 20 million cases in 2022.
