Vaccine derived Polio Virus cases on the rise in Africa

Vaccine have played a major role in the eradication of polio worldwide but as in all wars some collateral damages are a part of the victory. Vaccine derived Polio Cases are a new threat to the continuing war raged against polio. In a recent update by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, four African countries namely; Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria and Somalia gave reported Vaccine derived Polio cases. The cases have become a major problem in the region with intensified coverage of vaccines being ensured by the WHO and help from various international organisation's like BMGF. Africa is one of the most troublesome areas for vaccination because of various reasons including political unrest, local beliefs and cultures. This recent outbreak of Vaccine derived Polio Cases push a further problem in an already undeserved region.
