With a focus on shifting of industries to safer fuels, use of coal has been completely banned in NCR. The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR & Adjoining Areas (CAQM) has advised Coal India Limited and State Governments of Haryana and U.P. to ensure that coal is not supplied/ allotted to suppliers/ stockists/ agents of ClL operating in NCR. As per directions of CAQM, 21 industrial units using highly polluting unapproved fuels like coal, furnace oil, etc. were closed since the last three months w.e.f. 01.10.2022. Beyond 01.01.2023, only two units were found using fuels not included in the standard fuel list. This has been possible due to the incognito inspections conducted by the Flying Squad of CAQM.
