  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) uses the National TB Indicators Project (NTIP) to evaluate and enhance tuberculosis (TB) control efforts across the U.S.

  • The NTIP employs specific metrics to assess TB control effectiveness, including TB incidence rates, which have decreased by 71.2% in 37 jurisdictions over the last five years.

  • Another critical metric is the completion of TB therapy within 12 months, with 61.5% of jurisdictions meeting or exceeding the national average of 89.7%.

  • Additionally, the project tracks the percentage of patients with reported drug susceptibility results, which is crucial for accurate treatment and stands at 97% nationally.

  • The proportion of contacts to sputum AFB smear-positive TB patients who received a latent TB infection diagnosis and completed treatment has also improved across most jurisdictions.

  • These metrics help measure the success of TB programs and identify areas needing improvement, such as the high TB incidence rate among non-U.S.-born individuals, which is 15.7% above the target.
