US reports 2 deaths due to Eastern Equine Encephalitis

Eastern Equine Encephalitis, EEE

EEE presents in two forms:
Non complicated/ Febrile EEE
Complicated/ Neurological EEE
It spreads as a result of bite of infected mosquito or even through organ transplantation.
The virus circulates in the environment between mosquitoes and birds.
Non complicated EEE presents with fever, chills, bodyache, and joint pain, while complicated EEE with neurological involvement presents with fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, drowsiness, or even coma.
The febrile form of EEE resolves within a week or two.
Prevention:
No vaccine is available.
Use of insect repellents
Take steps to control mosquitoes indoors and outdoors
