  • EEE presents in two forms:

  1. Non complicated/ Febrile EEE

  2. Complicated/ Neurological EEE

  • It spreads as a result of bite of infected mosquito or even through organ transplantation.

  • The virus circulates in the environment between mosquitoes and birds.

  • Non complicated EEE presents with fever, chills, bodyache, and joint pain, while complicated EEE with neurological involvement presents with fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, drowsiness, or even coma.

  • The febrile form of EEE resolves within a week or two.

  • Prevention:

  1. No vaccine is available.

  2. Use of insect repellents

  3. Take steps to control mosquitoes indoors and outdoors
