  • In December 2022, under the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act 2019, the Government of India established the Medical Assessment and Rating Boarding (MARD).

  • The functions of the board included assessing and rating all medical institutions (Government and Private) regarding their compliance with the regulations laid down by the NMC.

  • Similarly, in 2010, The National Council for Clinical Establishments was constituted under the Clinical Establishments (CE) Act.

  • The council was responsible for the overall registration and regulation of Government (except the armed forces) and Private clinical establishments.

  • Under this act, the CE is required to fulfill the minimum requirements of-

  1.  Facilities and services

  2.  Personnel

  3.  Maintenance of records

  • If the registration requirements are not met, it also allows for the cancellation of hospitals' registrations.
