  • Discussion on Climate Resilient Development in the Indian Himalayan Region took place at a UN Climate Conference COP 28 side event hosted by India on December 3, 2023.

  • Dr Anita Gupta from the Climate Change and Clean Energy Division led discussions, emphasizing the urgency for action in light of deteriorating climate change effects.

  • Two sessions covered the following topics:

  1. India's Climate Change Initiatives, Regional Perspectives on Cryosphere.

  2. Climate Risk Assessment for Sustainable Development.

  • The second session, co-hosted with the Government of Himachal Pradesh, highlighted initiatives under the National Mission on Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem and climate policy interventions.

  • COP 28 in Dubai saw representatives from 197 countries assessing progress under the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, focusing on adaptation and mitigation efforts for vulnerable regions like the Himalayas.
