  • At the national technical consultation held at AIIMS Delhi, experts stressed that Ferric Carboxy Maltose (FCM) administration can significantly improve maternal health and birth outcomes and be a crucial intervention in addressing iron deficiency during pregnancy.

  • It's given as a single-dose injection as compared to intravenous sucrose, which requires 6 doses.

  • According to the latest developments, the cost of this single-dose injection has come down from Rs 3000/dose to Rs 300.

  • AIIMS Delhi director encouraged researchers at AIIMS to come out with newer and better iron molecules for addressing anemia as a health problem in India, as envisioned under the Anemia Mukt Bharat program.

  • The Government of India's recent seminal announcement of including single-dose intravenous iron in the Anaemia Mukt Bharat programme was discussed.

  • Parenteral iron made in India could be a game changer for anemia control in India and, in particular, be a life-saving drug for pregnant women with severe anemia.
