Measles remains a public health concern despite vaccination programs.
The study performed a secondary analysis of NFHS-5 data on the information of 43,864 children aged 24-35 months.
The study results showed that challenges persist in India, with 11.5% of children receiving no measles vaccine (zero-dose).
Children from the poorer wealth quintiles and those of the fourth birth order had around 16% and 17% zero-dose rates, respectively.
High concentrations of unvaccinated children were found in northeastern states.
The study's conclusions include the following:
Addressing sociodemographic determinants and implementing interventions with a spatial focus can increase coverage
Swift action is required to close last-mile immunization gaps.
There is a need to incorporate the lessons from the various effective campaigns to eliminate measles.
