Drinking wash and Sanitation, gender equality

Content Editor: Dr. Sumana Mukhopadhyay

UNICEF-WHO report about gender disparities in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) revealed the burden of fetching water for households by women and girls is around 7 out of 10 homes among 1.8 billion people living with no water source in premises globally. ● These tasks impact women and girls' education, work, safety, hygiene, and injury risk while using open toilets.  ● Increased exposure to WASH-related infectious diseases. ● Risks of harassment and sexual violence for meeting basic sanitation needs. Despite increased access to potable water, 1.4 million lives are lost annually due to inadequate WASH. The SDG-6 of universal access to WASH could be attained by augmenting gender equality and safety.
