Surge in Polio Cases Reported Across Five Countries

  • Pakistan: Seven new wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases have been reported, bringing the country's total to 39 for the year.

  • Afghanistan: One additional WPV1 case has been identified, increasing the national count to 23 in 2024.

  • Chad: Three new cases of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) have been confirmed, raising      the year's total to 11.

  • Niger: One cVDPV2 case has been reported, bringing the country's total to 10 for the year.

  • Nigeria: Five new cVDPV2 cases have been documented, increasing the 2024 total to 66.
