  • Rwanda's Health Minister, Sabin Nsanzimana, announced the end of the Marburg virus outbreak after 42 days without new cases, meeting the World Health Organization's criteria for declaring an outbreak over.

  • Since its onset in late September, the outbreak resulted in 66 confirmed cases, including 15 deaths, predominantly among healthcare workers who treated initial patients.

  • Despite the successful containment, health officials urge ongoing caution due to potential risks from natural virus reservoirs, such as bats. Efforts are underway to monitor and understand bat populations to prevent future outbreaks.

  • The World Health Organization praised Rwanda's swift and effective response, highlighting the importance of sustained vigilance against one of the world's most dangerous viruses.
