According to D. Mohana Krishna, Joint Director of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, the State of Andhra Pradesh has reported 12 rabies-related deaths in the last six months and 27 in the last 18 months.
During the Lok Sabha discussion of this issue, Satya Pal Singh Baghel, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare responded that out of 269 rabies death nationwide in 2022, 29 were from Andhra Pradesh.
The rise in cases despite the adequate supply of anti-rabies vaccines, and stray dogs control programs calls for the attention of health officials.
To reduce Rabies incidence and prevalence, the Central government launched the National Action Plan For Dog Mediated Rabies Elimination (NAPRE) from India by 2030.
