Pre-monsoon preparedness: The plan ahead to manage Dengue and Chikungunya

The measures taken include:
Increase in the number of Sentinel Surveillance Hospitals to 848 for free diagnosis and disease surveillance.
Initiation of pre-monsoon preventive activities as a part of the National Dengue Day celebration.
Master trainers from secondary and tertiary care hospitals were trained on updated national guidelines of case management released by the Union Health Ministry.
Teams were deputed from the Centre to States for:
Reviewing disease situation and actions taken,
Provision of technical guidance and logistics for diagnosis.
The measures that need to be taken are:
Focus on high burden states
Inter-ministerial convergence among the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), the Education Ministry
Creation of 24/7 central helpline
Establishment of dedicated dengue hospitals
