  • Bangladesh has reported 14 Nipah virus cases this year out of which 10 were fatal.

  • Cases were reported from 7 districts out of a total of 64 in the country.

  • Alarmingly, the virus has been detected for the first time in breast milk in Bangladesh.

  • Usually, Nipah infections show a seasonal pattern from December through May, coinciding with the harvesting of palm sap and festivities.

  • Health officials urged people to avoid drinking date sap, which can be contaminated by bat droppings and spread the disease.
