  • As per the reports till 20nd June, 2025, India is dealing with a recent rise in Covid-19 cases with 18256 cases reported across India since 1st January, 2025. Kerala reported the greatest load with 6083 active cases while Delhi reported 630 active cases. These figures have been provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

  • 5 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across India. 1 in Delhi [A 75-year-old male with Lung Cancer (Adenocarcinoma)], 1 in Kerala (A 76-year-old female with Post-COVID Hypoxia, Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Coronary Artery Disease), 1 in Maharashtra (A 66-year-old female with Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, on dialysis due to kidney failure), 1 in Punjab (An 82-year-old male with MODS, Acute MI, HFrEF (26%), COVID-19, Acute Type II Respiratory Failure, ILD, AKI, Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus) and 1 in West Bengal whose details are awaited.

  • This death marks the 16th in Delhi since January.

  • NB.1.8.1, the new subvariant, deemed a ‘Variant Under Monitoring’ by WHO has been detected in India with samples sent to INSACoG. The predominant strains in India are the BA.2 and JN.1 (a sublineage of the Omicron variant) strains.

  • Experts have warned to be careful when dealing with patients with comorbidities while urging the need to not panic.
