This was the first instance since the epidemic in October 2022–June 2023 which have resulted in 8,007 suspected cases, 671 lab-confirmed cases, and 23 fatalities.
The present revival is a result of violence placing further strain on Lebanon's already overworked health system and deteriorating infrastructure and water and sanitation facilities.
WHO is working closely with the Ministry of Health and partners in Lebanon. Targeting 350,000 residents in high-risk areas, the Ministry of Public Health began a preventative oral cholera vaccine campaign earlier in August in collaboration with WHO, UHNCR, UNICEF, and other partners.
The initiative, which was halted by the increase in violence, was intended to reach people one year of age and older.
WHO has promptly implemented a cholera preparedness and response plan with a consignment of vital medical supplies which arrived in Beirut on October 4 and 5.
