Respiratory infections, Ventilation, Indoor pollution

Recently, the CDC revised its guidelines for combating respiratory infections, emphasizing the need to lower indoor airborne particle concentrations.
This is the result of a decline in COVID and flu cases since December.
The CDC now emphasizes proper ventilation as a crucial tactic in addition to immunization and hand hygiene.
They stress that ventilation is only one layer of defense and not a perfect one.
Good ventilation techniques are beneficial all year, but particularly under the following circumstances:
There are many viruses in the community.
Individuals are either ill, recuperating, or exposed to illness.
People are susceptible to serious illnesses.
The recommendations include the following actions to enhance ventilation:
Taking in a breath of fresh outdoor air.
Ensuring that HVAC systems are operating properly; MERV-13 or higher filters are preferred.
Additional actions such as exhaust venting and air circulation, air purifiers, and UV air treatment.
The CDC also suggests using portable CO2 monitors to gauge indoor air quality and recommends moving activities outdoors whenever possible to further reduce transmission risk.
