  • A cluster-randomized controlled trial in Chandigarh, India, aimed to reduce chronic disease risk factors in adolescents through a school-based health-promotion intervention was conducted.

  • Twelve public schools were randomized into intervention and control groups, involving eighth-std students (n = 453), parents (n = 395), and teachers (n = 94).

  • Using the Precede-Proceed Model, the intervention included classroom and physical activity sessions for adolescents, parents, and teachers separately.

  • Among adolescents, the intervention reduced salt intake and alcohol use, and increased fruit consumption and physical activity.

  • No significant effects were observed on sugar and vegetable intake or tobacco use.

  • Exploratory findings showed positive changes in parents' and teachers' behaviors, indicating the effectiveness of involving the broader school community in behavior-change interventions.
