  • Using Doxycycline as prophylaxis in STI prevention raises concern about development of Antimicrobial resistance

  • Pearson et al conducted a study to assess the attitude and beliefs of 1,755 US HCPs from DocStyles panel survey by stratifying them as STI providers(< STI care) and Non-STI providers

  • STI providers agreeing to prescribe Doxycycline prophylaxis(aOR- 2.76) and agreeing to the statement that benefits outweigh risk of AMR(aOR-1.54) revealed significant results with p<0.01

  • The findings of the survey suggested that those whose practice include >= 10%  STI care would prescribe Doxycycline  for STI prevention and believe that benefits outweigh risk of AMR compared to Non- STI providers
