Globally, 25 Nations, including India, have successfully halved their MPI values within the last 15 years.
However, across 110 countries, 1.1 billion out of 6.1 billion people (little more than 18%) are severely underprivileged.
About five out of every six impoverished people reside in Sub-Saharan Africa (534 million) and South Asia (389 million).
In India, 415 million poor people left poverty between 2005/2006 and 2019/2021, with the incidence decreasing from 55.1% to 16.4%.
According to the report, poor people without access to cooking fuel declined from 52.9% to 13.9%, and those without access to sanitation fell from 50.4% in 2005/2006 to 11.3% in 2019/2021
However, most of the 110 countries in the global MPI lack post-epidemic data, limiting the comprehension of how the pandemic has affected poverty.
