Children safety, sexual violence

Data shows that sexual violence against children is pervasive, cutting across geographical, cultural, and economic boundaries.
Most childhood sexual violence occurred in the adolescenct age groups with significant spike between 14 and 17 and it showed children that who experienced sexual violence are more likely to suffer repeated abuse.
To break this cycle and in mitigating long term impacts of such trauma, it is essential to implement targeted interventions during adolescence.
Often the survivors carry trauma of sexual violence into adulthood which leads them to face higher risks of sexually transmitted diseases, substance abuse, social isolation and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression challenging them in getting healthy relationships.
It highlights the need for increased investment in data collection to capture full scale of sexual violence against children.
