The war between Israel and Palestine has been going on since October 2023, leading to a severe humanitarian crisis.

This has led to the deprivation of usable water, the destruction of sanitation facilities, food insecurity, and the accumulation of tons of waste.

According to recent reports, the health ministry has declared Gaza the "Polio Epidemic Area" due to the detection of the circulating variant poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) strain of the polio virus in Gaza's sewage water.

However, no human cases have been reported until now, highlighting that the virus may be present among individuals without causing any signs or symptoms.

The WHO has also reiterated the need and importance of ensuring the delivery of vaccines to the people struck by this crisis.
