  • Indian Immunologicals Ltd.(IIL) and two other pharmaceutical companies donated 10,000 doses of anti-rabies vaccine to five economically backward provinces of Vietnam.

  • This donation is part of IIL’s One Health and outreach program, which includes initiatives like the Rabies Free Thiruvananthapuram project.

  • The Rabies Free Thiruvananthapuram project in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is a significant initiative that aims to eradicate rabies by vaccinating stray dogs, promoting responsible pet ownership, controlling the dog population, and ensuring timely vaccinations.

  • IIL is developing vaccines for various zoonotic diseases, including rabies, brucellosis, leptospira, porcine cysticercosis, Covid-19, Zika, and Kyasanur Forest Disease.

  • IIL has been supplying affordable vaccines to many developing countries and has a strong partnership with Vietnam.

  • Currently, Vietnam is facing a pressing issue with a 50% increase in rabies deaths during the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, which underscores the urgency of  collective efforts.
