Empowering ear health: Transforming perceptions for universal hearing care

Hearing Loss, World Hearing Day

Hearing loss is referred to as an “invisible disability” because of the absence of visible symptoms and lack of action by policymakers due to stigmatizing mindsets.
On March 3rd, 2024, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, organized awareness programs on the prevention and management of hearing loss through various national institutes and regional centers, namely:
Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Mumbai: organized free hearing screenings for people of all age groups
National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Chennai: organized training program for airport authorities at Chennai Airport.
Composite Regional Center (CRC), Chhatarpur: conducted an audiologists-centric webinar on hearing impairment
CRC, Nagpur: organized an awareness program.
CRC, Rajnandgaon: hosted an awareness rally, a drawing competition, and a hearing aid distribution program.
Shantiniketan Ratanpally and Vivekananda Adivasi Kalyan Samiti, Birbhum: showcased banner displays, dance performances, and poetry recitations by female students.
CRC Davanagere, CRC Lucknow, and CRC Bhopal: organized awareness programmes on World Hearing Day.
