The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently focusing on monitoring two variants of COVID-19, namely XBB.1.5 and XBB.1.16, and is also keeping an eye on six other variants—BA.2.75, CH.1.1, XBB, XBB.1.9.1, XBB.1.9.2, and XBB.2.3—along with their respective lineages. • As of July 2, 2023, there have been over 767 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and over 6.9 million deaths reported globally. • From June 5 to July 2, Thailand reported the highest number of new COVID-19 cases, followed by Bangladesh. • Within 28 days, Southeast Asia witnessed a 69% drop in COVID-19 cases, with over 18,000 new cases reported in the region, marking a significant decline. • Global challenges arise in COVID-19 surveillance due to declining trends in testing and sequencing.
