According to the International Diabetic Federation, an estimated 643 million individuals will be diabetic by 2030.
With the increase in diabetics, the data analysis firm GlobalData predicts rapid growth in the global diabetic device markets, particularly for continuous glucose monitors (CGMs).
Furthermore, introducing over-the-counter CGMs (OTC CGMs) will be transformative and ensure broader accessibility for individuals with diabetes and those seeking to monitor glucose levels.
Dexcom, the first OTC CGM approved by the FDA in March 2024, is designed for individuals aged 18 and older who do not use insulin.
The CGM uses a wearable sensor linked to a smartphone application, providing readings every several minutes.
These CGM devices will empower and educate individuals to manage their health.
