  • The Sudanese Health Minister, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, officially declared the outbreak of cholera within Sudan after the WHO announced that 11327 cases of cholera with 316 deaths had been seen.

  • The actual numbers are feared to be worse than reported.

  • The announcement followed positive reports of cholera from samples of watery diarrhea sent to the Public Health Laboratory.

  • Meanwhile, the recent monsoon period has worsened the situation, with cases of dengue and malaria on the rise.

  • The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the insurgent Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has exacerbated the epidemic scenario.
