China plans to implement one of the world’s strictest smartphone use regulations

China’s cyberspace authorities are planning to strictly regulate smartphone use among the younger population. Children are grouped into 5 groups - under 3, 3-8, 8-12, 12-16 &16-18 and the time allowed with mobiles will vary according to the age group. The smartphone companies have been instructed to introduce a “minor mode” to facilitate implementation of these regulations. Under 3 age groups gets just 40 mins and two hours is the maximum time allowed to 16-18 age group and additionally minor mode doesn’t allow for any usage from 10pm – 6am. The guidelines also instruct internet providers to show educational and enlightenment content to be suggested in minor mode.
