In a concerning update, six African nations have reported new polio cases this week.
These countries include:
Chad
Ivory Coast
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
Mozambique
Nigeria
South Sudan
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative revealed that all cases involved circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus types 1 or 2, with confirmations dating back to 2023.
With the situation intensifying, global efforts to eradicate the disease face renewed urgency.
Afghanistan and Pakistan, however, reported no new wild poliovirus type 1 cases but noted positive environmental samples.
As the battle against polio intensifies, urgent collaborative measures are imperative to curb the resurgence in these African nations and reinforce the global commitment to eradicate this debilitating disease.
