  • A team led by Manenji Mangundu at the University of South Africa (2023) conducted a cross-sectional study to identify strategies and develop a strategic action plan to enhance accessibility to healthcare in rural areas of Zimbabwe.

  • Two districts in two provinces were involved.

  • The  Cross-sectional research included four phases.

  1. In phase 1, data was collected from professional nurses and healthcare users.

  2. In Phase 2, information was collected from a nominal group of national health directors.

  3. Development of a strategic action plan in Phase Three based on previous phases, systems model, and literature control.

  4. A strategic action plan was finalized and validated by members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health in Phase 4.

  • The strategic action plan focused on-

  1. Improving the health infrastructure

  2. Providing medical drugs

  3. Providing health workers and medical equipment

  4. Addressing shortages

  5. Improving the capacity of the healthcare system

  • The author concluded that active participation at all levels allowed the development of a strategic action plan.
