A national level conference was inaugurated with the objective to explore the obstacles and solutions in implementing the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.
The most crucial obstacle for seeking help was combating the stigma; which was addressed in this conference.
Inclusion of mental health in the flagship Ayushman Bharat scheme has ensured accessibility.
Additionally, there have been 42 Tele-Manas cells established in the National Tele-Mental Health services, which have received over 2 lakh calls.
The primary emphasis was the need for an approach change in mental healthcare, more towards community-based care, keeping healthcare access, education and asocial support in mind.
Awareness of mental health issues must be raised through integration into schools, colleges, and workplaces.
Improved coordination and cohesiveness of services, substance abuse treatment, and primary care were stressed upon.
Challenges in India were identified as-
Funding
Infrastructure
Inadequate mental health education institutions.
A book and a report on the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017, were also released.
