Infectious disease, outbreak, Bird flu

Michigan currently accounts for about one-third of the country’s confirmed cases of livestock.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 11 other states besides Michigan have dairy herds with known infections.
Until this year, influenza cases were very rare, which is the main reason the outbreak went unnoticed for a long period.
These outbreaks have led to the establishment of regulations and surveillance systems to curb further spread.
Michigan’s chief medical executive said, “One of our mantras is if you don’t test for it, you don’t find it.”
Public health authorities believe the suggested numbers are lower, and efforts to clearly map the scale of the problem are worsened by dairy farmers' lack of cooperation.
Michigan has put animal and human surveillance in place, which has led to more cases being identified.
The pandemic experts believe the remaining areas hit by the outbreak should adopt Michigan's "test it to find it" policy.
