In a Memorandum of Understanding, the Yale Research Initiative on Innovation and Scale (Y-RISE) and the World Health Organization's (WHO) Behavioural Insights Unit (BI-Unit) have committed to working together over the next two years to advance and enable the systematic use of the social and behavioural sciences in public health, as well as to design and scale up evidence-based behavioural interventions.
A better knowledge of how and why people behave in harmful ways to their health can be achieved using behavioural insights, which can also be used to build programmes and policies that address behavioural issues for better physical and mental health.
Under the scope of this new partnership, Yale and WHO will:
Exchange information about the latest advances in the scaling of behavioural interventions;
Lead collaborative projects to examine the impact of behavioural interventions in public health, including the complexities of scaling up such interventions;
Jointly develop research proposals and presentations for stakeholders interested in applying behavioural science approaches to their programming;
Deliver joint training on the science of scaling up behavioural sciences in public health policies and programmes.
