  • The WHO released new guidance on Target Product Profiles (TPP) for point-of-care diagnostic modalities for STIs.

  • These assist in making sure that products are "fit-for-use," which refers to the fact that they are secure, efficient, and tailored to the environment of use and that they are designed and created to meet the clinical needs of populations at risk.

  • Point-of-care tests help in:

  1. Reduced costs for medical care

  2. Minimize waiting times

  3. Accelerate the start of the treatment

  4. Increase the accuracy of treatment

  5. Improve patient follow-up.

  • This will facilitate better data collection, increase accessibility to low-cost point-of-care STI tests, and enable the provision of high-quality STI services to those who need them.
